Marcos S. Morcillo started to focus on mycorhizas after graduating in Biology at the University of Barcelona (SPAIN), joining the research team of Dr. Enric Gracia in 1995. His main study area was to develop new techniques to inoculate truffles and other edible mycorhizal mushrooms (Lactarius delicosus and Boletus edulis) directly on mature trees, leading eventually to Mycoforest Technology.
In 1998 Marcos became the director of Micología Forestal & Aplicada, a private research center specialized in truffles, where he has developed mycorhizal mushroom management projects in several countries including New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Portugal.
He’s in charge at MF&A’s nursery, where they have produced more than 200,000 truffle infected trees since 1989 and helps to establish and manage hundreds of truffle orchards in Catalonia and Spain.
His center also specializes in technology transfer, working with nurseries and growers around the world. In 2006 he wrote the quality standards to certify truffle infected trees for the Goverment of Andalucia (Spain). And in 2007 he wrote a technical truffle guide book for the spanish Goverment: MORCILLO M., MORENO B., PULIDO E., SÁNCHEZ M. (2007): Manual de truficultura Andaluza. Ed. Gypaetus y Consejería de MedioAmbiente. Junta de Andalucía. p. 176.
